Components of voiceover rates
Script Length – All projects have different lengths, and different lengths have different rates. An audiobook with 10,000 words will have a much higher rate compared to a local 30-second commercial.
Genre – Will this be a commercial, e-learning module, narration or audiobook project? They all have different rates!
Medium – Where will this audio exist? TV/Radio? Corporate/Internal? Internet? These factors have different rates.
Market – Where you’ll focus your advertising affects the rate too. Will this be advertised in a local, regional, national, or global market? These make a difference!
Advertising Cycle – How long do you plan on using the recording? Some projects won’t have an advertising cycle (audiobooks, corporate, e-learning, etc) but some do! If yours does, how long?
Budget – As a business owner that views our relationship as a collaborative team, Chris wants to help your business, brand, and message! Negotiating within your budget is possible! Fill out the quote form below and let’s get it started!

A buyout is when you, the client, pay a one-time usage fee, no matter how long the voiceover is used, or in what market it’s used in. a.k.a. perpetuity.
A re-buy is an agreement to use the voiceover for a certain period of time after the original agreement has expired. Think of it as a renewal. The re-buy fee is usually the same as the original usage fee that was initially paid.
Cut-downs are when the voice talent records say, a: 60 commercial and its further edited so it can be used as 30, 15, or even: 05-second commercial(s). Usage fees (or buy-outs) apply to each version of those additional recording(s)
Chris is happy to be remotely directed for any project! Currently offering Source-Connect for these sessions.
If a local studio is required, the client will be responsible for the rental cost and booking of the studio of their choosing. Chris can travel to any studio within the greater North Carolina, and Southern Virginia area. (Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro, Charlotte or Richmond VA.)
If you require a directed session, contact Chris and we will schedule a block of time to record!
All first-time clients are required to pay 50% of the total invoice before the recording session begins. After files have been delivered, the remaining balance is due upon invoice sent.
For small startup businesses and limited budget clients, Chris offers monthly payment plans, with an initial deposit required at time of recording. The additional payments can be spread out over 3 or 6 months.
For existing clients with good payment history, net 30 is the standard, and invoices will be sent to the client.
Accepting payments via PayPal, credit card, and business checks and money orders.
A session fee is the standard studio fee per project. The usage fee is similar to a licensing fee. When you see an Iron Man backpack, the company that made the backpack had to pay Marvel Studios a fee to use the image.
For TV and Radio commercials and tags, there will be a usage fee. The market size, amount of time it will air, and exclusivity, all play a factor in what the fee is. See the next FAQ about buyouts, which are common for commercial projects or fill out the form on this page for a quote on your specific project!
